About Scottish Country Dancing

Scottish Country Dancing is probably the most popular form of folk dancing. The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, through its events, publications and training courses, ensures consistent practice around the world. You will find the same steps, the same formations, the same technical language used in its 160 Branches and over 200 Affiliated Groups throughout Europe (East and West), Argentina, Australia, Cyprus, Japan, North America and South Africa. And there are hundreds of other clubs like ours, so it is danced in most countries in the world, by all age groups too. This means that if you leave your area permanently or temporarily, you are sure to find a club elsewhere.

Moving rhythmically, meeting eyes, touching hands, synchronising footwork, following formation patterns - the psychological and physical benefits of dancing are well documented. Professor Michael Argyle, who pioneered social psychology at Oxford University and authored many books on social issues, pursued a long-term scientific study of human happiness. The best, most consistent source of happiness he identified for himself was Scottish Country Dancing.

Our Group

To date we have a good regular membership but we are always looking to grow and we welcome new members of all nationalities, as well as temporary visitors to the area.

Regular Wednesday evening sessions are held, taught in French and English, and the dance season runs from September through to June. Tuition is given in basic dancing and technique - you do not need a partner so there is no problem to come alone if you want to.

Call one of us, bring enthusiasm and a pair of soft shoes - you will be made very welcome!
